EVERY LITTLE TABLE COUNTS: A SMATTERING OF TABLES FROM HOLLY HUNT

One of my favorite New York City showrooms is Holly Hunt.  Actually, they have two showrooms in the city and both are packed with fabulous furniture finds for my projects. Especially when I am looking for something unique and contemporary I know I am bound to find it there.

WRITER'S TABLE

WRITER’S TABLE

Such it was last week when I went on the hunt for just THE PERFECT LITTLE TABLE to place between two great club chairs in a client’s living room.  You have to look carefully around a showroom for small tables, as often the larger pieces of furniture distract you…being just so,so fabulous… and you could easily miss some great find. One definitely doesn’t want that to occur when foraging in the design market.

LENS TABLE MCB

I happen to be a big aficionado of little tables.  This is an opportunity  for the interior designer to make a big statement with a small package.  I actually have mixed dezign-emotions about what makes up the perfect little table.  I wax from more classic looks to sleek and modern.  Mostly I want the table not to get lost with the other furniture and it must be a significant dezign-statement.

Believe it or not, some of these tables can be as costly as larger end table in a living room. So, I am of the belief, that if you are going to spend that kind of money it should be a bit more on the outstanding side than ordinary.  You especially do not want it to look like an expensive version of something that has been knocked off by someone like Crate & Barrel, if you know what I mean.

BITTERROOT SIDE TABLE

The tables I am picturing here do the dezign-trick for me.  They all have big personalities, use unusual materials or are designed in an interesting shape.  Whoever is doing the buying for Holly Hunt is definitely on my wave length when it comes to the importance of a fabulous little table.

PESO SIDE TABLE

When you are selecting something small try and think courageously (my favorite dezign-word!) and think about what would be unexpected.  Plus, try and avoid being too practical with your decisions, people are definitely not offended when you offer them a coaster.

RUE DE SEINE SIDE TABLE

If I had to select a favorite on this page I would probably go with the thick colored glass top, the Lens Table MCB by McCollin Bryan.  It is simple but strong in dezign-attitude and allows you to subtly bring a splash of a color into the decor. But I must admit, I am  also tantalized by the beauty of the Writer’s Table, by Alison Berger, with it’s black glass top scribbled with writing…very chic. And, there is no doubt that the Afriba Table  by Christian Astugueveille, is a quite the stunner too.

Okay, by now you should see that there are many fabulous choices out there , so be brave and try and make a positive dezign-statement  when you are selecting just that PERFECT LITTLE TABLE for your room!
