Well, it finally happened..I flipped over a project portrayed in a recent edition of Architectural Digest! Lately, I have been finding the homes featured in this iconic interior design publication well executed and, yes, I admit, quite lovely, but
nothing that got my juices flowing. Granted my bar is set quite high. I need to see a home that shouts out to me and say ” I wish I lived there” and nothing less.
So, when I turned the pages of this particular project in Architectural Digest I was simply mesmerized by the work. I loved the architecture and the interior design furnishings and was particularly smitten by one or two chairs and tables. I immediately moved over to my computer to find out more about the designer/architect responsible for the project…that’s how fabulous I thought it was!
Well, the design genius behind this project was a very accomplished architect named Jean-Louis Deniot. AND, I say this with total honesty, Deniot is super talented and creative in a wonderfully clever and original way. He easily mixes period pieces and contemporary pieces…many of his own design…as smoothly as making a chocolate cake with a Betty Crocker cake mix! No lumps in his work. Every detail is completely thought out and executed with care and precision.
The project featured in Architectural Digest was the duplex apartment home of Nancy Gonzalez, a famous designer of handbags, who lives in Colombia, South America. It really is so sophisticated and such a terrific mixture of furnishings with just the right amount of French design touches and Latino accents, all set in a perfectly marvelous contemporary setting. I am including a picture of her walk in closet just to make you all drool. I mean, honestly, don’t you wish you walked into something like this every morning when you had to get dressed? Okay, no comments about the “shoe collection”…remember the woman is in the fashion business!
He breezily combines a French sensibility with a modern flare that is charming, chic and brilliant. AND the funniest thing is that after researching about Deniot that I had specified some of his ultra-chic lighting in this super interesting commercial venture I am working on called The Curated Manse…something you will definitely hear about in a future post.
Although there are many projects featured on his web site I have just chosen a few in order to illustrate how intelligent his design work is and how seductive both his architecture and interiors are. Okay let’s go…
Well, by now I hope I have sold you on Deniot’s talents and sensibilities. He’s my new dezign guru! He also has some outrageously delicious furniture pieces he designs, but that’s another whole blog post…just so, so many lovelies.
Ciao, ciao ’til next time!
