Move over Ikea and CB2, ’cause you’ve got some serious competition. BoConcept, the Danish company that sells high styled contemporary urban furnishings at unbelievably low prices, has brought a ‘ringer’ to the table…or should I say the store? The infamous
product/ furniture designer, Karim Rashid has joined the team and designed his first collection for them and it’s a winner!
Okay, everything Rashid designs is super fabulous. He is probably one of the most prolific designers out there. According to his biography his name is associated with over 3000 designs and he has garnered over 300 awards for his excellence as a designer and his designs are sold in over 40 countries worldwide. Phew! I’d say his influence in the design world is unbelievably vast and now he has once again demonstrated his versatility by developing the Ottawa Collection for BoConcept.
It is not an extensive collection, with the designs centering around the dining room. For my money, and I hate to admit probably because of my age, the collection is more appropriate in a kitchen dining area or a casual dining room. However, that doesn’t take away from it’s good looks and smart design.
The credenza is my favorite with the open ripples on the doors and the splayed legs. It also comes in different material combinations, so there is one to fit all sorts of design situations.
The dining table is also on the favorite’s list because aside from is sleek, clean lines and those signature splayed legs of the collection, it also opens up and stores a concealed leaf underneath. Let’s hear a big “Yea” for tables that open up with stored leaves! Here’s a fun video I found on line of Rashid demonstrating his table which you might enjoy watching:
The cups and saucers and espresso cups that go with the collection are really colorful and playful and I love the mix of patterns and designs that embellish them. Plus the orange hanging light is fun and provides an unexpected touch over the table.
The win-win here, folks, is that all of this high design can be gotten for a reasonable price. So if you are looking to zsazs up some eating area and want to finally buy something by Rashid you can easily afford, this is the perfect time to do so.
There is nothing like an opportunity to cash in on good design at a reasonable price point. Who knows what these pieces will be worth in the future?
Ciao, ciao ’til next time!
