Just landed in Los Angeles on Friday and am on the hunt already for “fabulousity”… which I always seem to find in the city of angels. My sidekick on this forage into the LA world of antiques and wondrous furnishings is my 5 year old granddaughter, Ila, who by the way, has impeccable taste, and seems to relish “the hunt” as much as I do!  This go round brought me  to an old favorite haunt of mine, BLACKMAN CRUZ, who recently opened a huge new showroom on North Highland Avenue. Trust me, this place is filled to the brim with unique and stunning furnishings, mostly from the second half of the Twentieth Century, as well as pieces of their own design, which are equally as terrific.

BLACKMAN CRUZ has always had a bit of an industrial bent…they make the best black leather and unfinished steel bar stools that I know of, and also have a super over sized metal mirror with long extension-like spikes coming out of it, which  has been one of my top ten mirrors for may years.Their basic take on dezign is not  for the feint of heart. Bold, strong, quirky, metal and wood pieces are their forte. They even have a ‘spike’ chair ….made out of faux leather for comfort….that just tickled me. I definitely sat in it, and it’s a blast…a real conversation piece in a room!

But now they’ve expanded their own designs and come up with some highly stylish tables…cocktail, dining, and occasional…that are simply wonderful. Take a peak at some of the ones I saw on the showroom floor:

This one has an outrageous cast bronze base and a stone top….and is called the Deliquescent Dining Table…so beautiful! It also comes as a side table, and that’s just as stupendous.

This Ellipse OP dining table is so so chic and elegant and versatile.I particularly like this version with a marble top and a chrome base, but there are many metals, materials and sizes to choose from.

Love, love, love the Tao Cocktail Table. of patinaed brass and glass..already have it slated for a project.

Check out these bronze Three-Legged Bar Stools created by Chuck Moffit that are a win win when size is of the essence…I think they could be used as petite side tables as well!

And do not miss their outstanding selection of antique furnishings, which are equally as enticing:

You have got to recognize how wild and wonderful this bronze snake chair is. I don’t even care if it’s comfortable or not, it’s a one of a kind beauty!

A contemporary bench made with glass tubes as the cushion! Gotta call up and get the designer’s name asap!

A pair of these French 1950’s French limed oak and black leather  club chairs would be the ultimate of chicness in any room.

If your aesthetic is for bold and original you’ll just love this place.  I walked away with a thousand and one ideas for the jobs I’m working on back East.  Do not forget to add to the plus list the wonderful service and attention I received from Adam Blackman, one of the owners.

And my youthful assistant?  I found her cozily ensconced  in her favorite chair on the floor.
