Well, here it is the end of 2013 and once again I want to send out a big thank you to everyone who follows DEZIGNLICOUS every week. It is a labor of love to write about everything I find in my daily excursions out into the world. Plus, it gives me great pleasure to share with one and all what I think makes up the wild and wonderful world of design.
Looking back on this past year, I feel I was indeed fortunate to have some great ah-ha design moments and to get familiar with many great artisans and talents, not to mention a side trip here and there to spice things up. I have to admit that simply selecting six favorites from all that I wrote about always poses a problem, but here you go:
The Haas Brothers are way up there on the top when it comes to designing Upside Down Design furniture! There is nothing predictable about their furnishings and everything has their signature of originality. You can see their design wonders at R Twentieth Century here in NYC. Or , if you are feeling adventuresome, hop a plane to LA and check out their design studio!
Meeting a master of design in person is always a thrilling moment. I simply had the best time interviewing Guilio Cappellini at his flagship Cappellini store downtown in Soho, NYC, for the magazine Moda de Vida. He is quite the gentleman and so self assured and so talented to boot. His approach to furniture design is inspiring and intelligent and totally 21st Century, and, for my money ,the top banana in the Opine On Design category.
Okay, I just posted our big moment on HGTV’s show “Bang For The Buck” a few weeks ago. But, it was a great moment for us and it fits right into this category. If you haven’t watched it, go for it now!
I don’t think I have seen anything more unusual and also superbly beautiful at the same time than the lighting creations by Pier Lorenzo Salvoni. The process, combined with the results, adds up to some of the most fabulous lighting fixtures which with To Adorn your home.
Sustainable design is quite the fashion today, as well it should be. I am always excited to discover a company that pushes that envelope just a little further and integrates recycled products in a chic and fashionable manner. Such it is with Dvelas ,which makes really cool outdoor furniture out of recycled sails. I discovered them at Mondo Collection in NYC, where you can too. Dvelas gets my vote for tops in the Green With Envy category.
I am an avid museum-goer and a lover of all types of art and , therefore, always want to take the opportunity to sing the praises of any artist I think deserves it. Sandra Llano-Mejía would be my choice this year to take the prize in the I Went…I Saw…I Heard category. I strongly recommend you take another look at her digital-art photography and enter into her dream-like world of reality.
Well, ‘that’s all their is folks’ for 2013. Another revolution around the sun…another year older, and, hopefully, wiser. It’s been so much fun being in your life too through DEZIGNLICIOUS. I’ll be taking off until after the New Year, so shall see you all in two weeks.
Let’s all toast to a 2014 that brings one and all well being, merriment and contentment!
CIAO, CIAO, ‘TIL NEXT TIME!
