There is something to be said for furniture that has a bit of pizazz and style and is sensibly priced. Add to that the caveat that it is well made and you have a a winner in the interior design category. The company SHINE by S.H.O has
all of the above and then some. The initials S.H.O., incidentally, stand for Susan Hornbeak Ortiz, the owner and head designer of the line.
I first notice their appealing line of furnishings a few years back when I was looking for some great pieces for a beach house in Fire Island. I was attracted by the colorful, somewhat “Moroccan meets Deco” stylizing the line had, a unique look not found in other similarly priced furniture lines.
I am definitely titillated by the bright contrasting colors and the stark white on white pieces. In my book, SHINE furnishings have both a wonderfully fresh and whimsical look at the same time.
I have my favorites, of course. I’m crazy for the Shanghai Table and it’s lacy fret work border. It is as exciting looking all in white as it is in a bright yellow or turquoise. The Frank Dining Table has clean strong lines and would be fabulous in a house in California or Florida…or in a beach house.
AND the Cary Buffet with it’s scrolled front and geometric shaped legs…very cooooool! All the pieces are available in a wonderful assortment of bright colors, one more punchy than the next, in addition to white on black or white and white.
They also manufacture a spicy collection of upholstery. One of the features I like the best about this part of the line is the “legs” they install on many of the sofas, chaises, chairs and benches. You do, of course, remember my total passion for sexy legs on furniture ( see THE GAMS HAVE IT…LEGS, LEGS, LEGS…DID I SAY LEGS? ) ? Perhaps S.H.O. read my blog post?????
Anyway, there are so many pieces I find completely charming and refreshing. Here is a picture of one of my favorites, the Edinburgh Chaise , and pictured at the top of the post is the Manhattan Sofa, which has super-duper nail head detailing.
I am going to leave you with a perfect “Trifecta of hanging lights” that I find quite illuminating…forgive the pun! Don’t you think that one would “spark up” an entry or dining room or “shine” over a desk in a teenage girl’s room?
CIAO, CIAO ‘TIL NEXT TIME!
